Captain and Lieutenant Deputy Sheriff

The Captain and Lieutenants of the Athens County Sheriff’s Office are tasked with the supervision of Deputies on their assigned shift. General duties of the Lieutenants include prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, conducting inspections of personnel, equipment, reports, vehicles and weapons and directing corrective action as necessary. Lieutenants will provide training on and the review of the Sheriff’s Office’s polices & procedures with the Deputies. Lieutenants also respond to reports of criminal activity which includes conducting investigations, serving warrants and summons, making arrests as necessary, preparing written reports, and testifying in court when needed.

Deputy Sheriff

When the public thinks of the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, the first image that comes to mind is usually the uniformed Deputy. The Deputy Sheriff’s are tasked with responding to reports of criminal activity which includes conducting investigations, serving warrants and summons, making arrests as necessary, preparing and writing reports, and testifying in court when needed. Deputies handle the majority of criminal cases and civil disturbances within Athens County.
