My name is Bryan E. Cooper and I am currently the Captian of Operations with the Athens County Sheriff’s Office. I have been with the Sheriffs Office since 1993 and I have held several titles. I am happily married with two beautiful daughters who take up most of my free time. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and love cooking out during the summer month.
I was born and raised in Athens County and graduated from Athens High School. I joined the United States Army Reserve in 1989 as a Combat Engineer and was stationed in Parkersburg West Virginia with the 463rd Combat Engineer unit until my out date in 1997. While in the reserves I attended Hocking College and received an Associates Degree in Police Science in 1992. In 1993 I joined the Athens county Sheriff’s Office as a Special Deputy and was hired full time in February 1994. In 1997 I was given the task of K9 handler and met my partner, Rudy. Rudy was a Belgium Malinois from Holland and became my best friend. In 2001 Rudy retired and I took a promotion to Sergeant. I was a Sergeant for eight years of afternoon, swings and midnight shifts. In 2009 after Sheriff Kelly was elected I was promoted to Lieutenant of operation and in 2010 I was promoted to Captain where I currently work.
I truly love Athens County and plan on retiring with the Athens County Sheriff’s Office. My goals are to continue to learn under Sheriff Kelly’s tenure and to run for sheriff prior to my retirement.
I look forward to working with the citizens of Athens County and encourage everyone to share their thoughts and ideas with me at firstname.lastname@example.org
